SHERWYN WOOD DAIRY HONORED AS A 2018 DFA MEMBER OF DISTINCTION
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (March 21, 2018) – The Wood family, owners of Sherwyn Wood Dairy in Stephenville, Texas, has been named among the 2018 Members of Distinction by Dairy Farmers of America (DFA).
The Members of Distinction program recognizes dairy farmers who excel on their operations, in their communities and in the industry. Honorees inspire others through their actions, leadership and involvement. They represent the best of the dairy industry.
DFA comprises more than 14,500 farmer-owners across the United States. Each year, one notable member farm from each of DFA’s seven regional Areas is selected to receive this honor. Sherwyn Wood Dairy represents the Cooperative’s Southwest Area.
Dairy farming is what Sherwyn Wood knows best. After meeting his wife, Angela, in college, the couple returned to Sherwyn’s family farm in Texas, to live out their dedication to the industry.
“We always focus on the details and are always looking for better ways to improve the comfort of our cows,” Angela says. “Animal health is very important to us.”
With only five farm employees to help tend to nearly 400 cows and 500 crop acres, Sherwyn and Angela do most of the farm work themselves, including everyday chores and overall operation management.
While finding time to leave the dairy is difficult, the couple still manages to serve in industry leadership positions through Dairy MAX and the Texas Agricultural Cooperative Council.
“When it all comes down to it, Sherwyn Wood Dairy is a family farm. Both of our children were very involved in the dairy, and now, we have three grandchildren who also love to play on the dairy farm,” Angela says. “We’re proud of our roots and where our family farm is today.”
